We are a non-profit organization based in Newburyport dedicated to the advancement of knowledge of the Civil War. We meet on the first Monday of each month to discuss a prearranged topic. Our own members give the presentations each month. Such presentations include, but are not limited to battles, battle tactics, weapons, leaders, common soldiers, etc. The presentations are very in-depth and last usually approximately 1-2 1/2 hours. Last month we were graced with an intriguing, thought-provoking presentation on the Lincoln-Douglass debates by Harvey Lipman Next Topic: November 1. Every now and again, the Civil War Roundtable of the Merrimac will either hold or participate in special events. These events have included: Chrismas Parties, Living Histories (in which we work hand-in-hand with the Sons of Union Veterans and/or various re-enacting units such as the 28th and 19th Massachusetts) and gravestone dedications.
